On the Beams' ship, Charles proposed that he and Ray adopt Renton as their son, much to his shock and happiness. They want him to them "Mama" and "Papa" but Renton is too overcome with confusing emotions. Ray tells him that he doesn't have to all the time or anything. He is surprised by their affection towards him, and he longs for that kind of love because he never had a mother and father before. Holland remembers arguing with Talho from earlier. He justified his actions of letting Renton leave because him gone would lessen the threat of the Seven Swell efeect, and it would have been better if Eureka chose him, not Renton, as her partner. Talho says that the threat would be there no matter who Eureka chose, and since she has chosen Renton, he needs to beleive in them. Charles is taking Renton out in his LFO, and takes him to an area flowing with trapar and skyfish.More compliments on Renton knowing the mind of a machine, but he doesn't understand a killing machine. He asks why people kill, but Charles asks him questions about the Nirvash. Renton talks about the Nirvash, Amita Drive, how me met Eureka, and was a member of the Gekkostate. He apologizes for not telling them sooner, but Charles asks about Holland and lets Renton take the wheel. He also apologizes for keeping secrets from Renton; he explains that he and ray are on a mission to retrieve the Nirvash and Eureka. Horrified, Renton begs them to say it's a lie, even promising to become their son, but they say it is the truth. On the Gekko, Holland calls himself lame and Talho berates him for waiting too long, and they've got a lead on a Vodarac priest named Norb. Charles isn't angry at Renton - he offers to let Renton go back to the Gekkostate, stay with them, or run away from both. Ray is very upset when Renton decides to leave but doesn't stop him. before leaving, he asks them if they knew who he was when they approached him, and the say yes, but they did care about him. Renton decides to go back to the Gekko to see Eureka again. meanwhile, Eureka is trying to get Nirvash to move with no avail. She cries and begs for the Nirvash to take her to Renton. Holland suddenly tells her that he will bring renton back for her.
Eureka, after a visit to Renton's abandoned room, begins to take on his duties in the onboard shop "Bon Marché", dressed in the jersey he wore in "Absolute Defeat". The crew watches her with concern, but Moondoggie mentions that they can do little to help, since Holland's decision is law.

On board the Swan, Charles and Ray ask a stunned Renton to call them "Papa" and "Mama". Renton, however, was afraid that his actions in the city of Olpasa, where the Beams couple was hired in "Differentia", would be cause enough to throw him off the ship. Differentia is the 23nd episode of the anime series Eureka Seven. ...

Back aboard the Gekko, Mischa tells Holland that theoretically the Amita Drive will only function properly if Eureka and Renton are mentally balanced. Eureka overhears this conversation. After he returns to his quarters, Talho chews Holland out for his behavior.

The scene shifts to the Swan hangar, and Renton ponders the Beams' offer. Charles teases him, thinking that the boy was thinking about a girlfriend. Renton admits that since he's never had a father and mother, the Beams' offer is appealing, if sudden. Renton shares about his past, and tells Charles about his grandfather and his experience with the Nirvash TypeZERO, and that his father is Adrock Thurston.

In the Gekko, Holland broods over the conversation he had with Talho in his quarters. The flashback clip is actually the conclusion of the earlier scene. He tries to rationalize keeping Renton away because of the dangerous potential of the Seven Swell; however, Talho retorts that the risk would be there even if Eureka chose him, and he would move forward in that case.

Charles takes Renton for a test flight in his Spearhead in the next scene. He shows Renton a large mountain with trapar flowing across its surface, and surrounded by sky fish. He narrates that he used to be excited about LFOs that effortlessly ride the sky, but he now regards them as "killing machines". Charles changes the subject to the Nirvash, and Renton tells him about the Amita Drive, Eureka, and Gekkostate. The Spearhead's sensors pick up several KLFs approaching, and Renton panics. As Charles calmly relates his thoughts on the price of freedom, Renton takes the controls and manages to evade the attack. As Renton struggles with the decision to destroy the enemy, Charles restrains him and calls off the KLFs, and reveals his and Ray's contracted mission with the military.

Back aboard the Gekko, Holland walks out of his quarters to find Talho waiting for him with information about Norb.

Charles' dialogue to Renton, relaying the intelligence on Gekkostate gathered by the military—in particular, the location, found in "page 286 of the Jackson map"—is voiced-over the scenes after the incident with the KLFs. Charles leaves the decision to go to Gekkostate or otherwise to Renton, and encourages the boy to follow through with his decision, as the Beams will surely follow through with their mission to recover Eureka and the Nirvash. Renton leaves his room on the Swan, bowing in farewell. After donning a parachute, he finds the Beams at a hatch. When Renton asks if they approached him even though they knew who he was, Ray tearfully confirms it. Renton bows in farewell to them as well, and jumps out of the Swan. Bowing is the act of lowering the head, or sometimes the entire upper body from the waist, as a social gesture. ...

In the final scene, Eureka repeatedly tries to get the Nirvash to move, but to no avail. Holland finds her and promises her to find and bring back Renton.
